The brainchild of Irish music entrepreneur Conor O’Brien, this multi-award-winning music collective combines energetic and passionate performances of both timeless classics and Top 40 hits with superb customer service. With an eclectic playlist and the flexibility to tailor to the needs of each and every client, it’s no surprise they have become the Twin Cities’ go-to string quartet.

When you contact the Loring String Quartet, you talk with Conor directly. We don’t use a third party to manage clients, or an agent who charges extra just to put you in touch with us.

With over 15 years of professional experience, Loring String Quartet has performed at over 1,500 parties, functions, funerals, and memorial services, as well as weddings that are secular, sacred, Christian, Jewish, Greek Orthodox, indoors, outdoors, traditional, unusual, original—you name it, we’ve played it!
Our depth of experience has cultivated a flexibility that allows us to adapt to any situation. This gives you the assurance that no matter what, where, or when your event is, we can provide you with your perfect, personalized, LIVE soundtrack.

Music is our profession and we take a lot of pride in what we do. We strive to perform our best at every event, regardless of who it’s for, where it is, or what music we play. Our professional approach is one of the things that sets us apart. We treat our clients well by responding promptly to calls and emails, always turning up on time and well prepared, and our standards of performance are second to none.
We even offer a variety of dress options—whether your event is formal, semi-formal, or casual, we will dress accordingly. This attention to detail is all part of the service with the Loring String Quartet.

Our performers have been preparing for this for their entire lives! Many of us started learning to play music when we were small children. We have since attended the finest schools and universities in this country and overseas, and we bring all of this training to each and every performance.
We have been performing in concert halls, theaters, and stages of all shapes and sizes for many years. We are a hard-working collective of professional musicians with a wonderfully eclectic résumé. Ask us about performing on the MTV Music Awards, or how the viral video with Kobe Bryant playing piano with us came to be!

Our repertoire covers hundreds of years of composition, from the early baroque of the 1600s to the present day. Most of our clients request a mix of classical and more contemporary selections. We have over 800 pop covers, spanning genres like golden oldies, rock ‘n’ roll, movie soundtracks, indie, grunge, 80s rock, Ratpack, jazz, disco, and much, much more.

Although we are based in Minneapolis, and most often perform within the greater Twin Cities area, we are always happy to travel far and wide to bring our music wherever it is needed. From Rochester to Roseau, Bemidji to Biwabik, we love bringing our music to ALL parts of MN. We do also perform in Wisconsin, Iowa, and the Dakotas. Additional travel fees apply.

As a collective, the Loring String Quartet offers a comprehensive music service with more than the two violins, one viola, and one 'cello found in a standard string quartet. If you would like to add a trumpet, harp, vocals, oboe, organ, piano, or any other instrument(s) to the quartet we can accommodate most combinations. While we most often recommend the sound of the full string quartet, we do offer smaller ensembles and are happy to discuss all options with you at any time.

Fresh approach
The Loring String Quartet performs for upwards of 100 events per year, ranging from weddings and funerals to corporate events, intimate parties, and live event experiences. They have worked with event designers on styled shoots and been featured in many local and national publications for their wedding work, including Martha Stewart Weddings. They are sought after for creative collaborations, such as their recordings of Baby It’s Cold Outside for MN Bride and Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata with Kobe Bryant, as well as their work with live dancers for a 2024 Taylor Swift tribute event: ‘A Swiftie Valentines’.
Bringing the artistic quality of the concert stage to each and every performance, their audiences and clients are consistently WOWed with their fresh approach, polished sound, and astounding versatility. Equally at home with Beethoven and Beyoncé, Bach and the Beach Boys, Brahms and The Beatles (and that’s just the Bs!), LSQ loves nothing more than a fun, diverse setlist!
Extensive experience
The musicians of this collective have extensive experience in performing music of all styles and genres. They can be heard with major symphony orchestras such as the Minnesota Orchestra and Chicago Symphony, and are also frequent performers with other local ensembles like the SPCO, MN Opera, and Lyra Baroque Orchestra to name just a few. They have played major venues such as the Target Center, Xcel Energy Center, First Avenue, on MTV, and with artists as diverse as Michael Bublé, Yo-Yo Ma, Mannheim Steamroller, Josh Groban, Stevie Wonder, Jamiroquai, Celtic Thunder, the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, and many more solo artists and touring shows. They also feature in recordings with Taylor Swift, Celine Dion, and many more.
Meet Conor
Since moving to Minnesota from his native Ireland, Conor O’Brien has built an eclectic professional portfolio that covers almost every facet of the music business. As a violinist, he has performed on three continents, including a tour of South Korea with the World Symphony Orchestra. He has worked with artists in many diverse genres, including recording for Taylor Swift and performing live with Dessa. As a baroque violinist, he has performed with the Bach Society of Minnesota, Christ Church Baroque (Ireland), Lyra Baroque Orchestra, and La Grande Bande, amongst others. Conor has been a faculty member/guest clinician at myriad schools and colleges, including Luther College and Gustavus Adolphus College. His entrepreneurial spirit complements his work as performer and teacher; he is artistic director of the Loring String Quartet, and music contractor/consultant for many local and national music organizations.
